Dani doesn't know what happened, as she unwisely combined painkillers and booze in order to cope with the stress of attending a party at Ian's company. He's Gone unfolds from the first-person perspective of Dani Keller, who wakes up after a night out at a party with her husband, Ian, only to find that he's disappeared. Memory is such a sadistic, temperamental little beast. ![]() He's Gone did not disappoint in terms of twisty backstory, and while it definitely heads in a darker direction than fans of Caletti's YA novels may be accustomed to, this unusual journey into the secrets of a marriage is both fascinating and mysterious. When I learned last year that she was publishing an adult novel, He's Gone, it quickly became one of my much-anticipated 2013 reads, as I was certain Caletti's style which I knew from her young adult fiction would likely translate well to a novel dealing with adult issues. ![]() ![]() ![]() “Broke, nerdy, and self-confessed wimp Misty Wall leads a ho-hum life as a Grammar Nazi intern, which of course earns her feelings of hate-at-first-sight from her colleagues at Ze Morgue, aka Moretti Inc.’s Administration Department. ![]() The number of paranormal romances published each and every year involving werewolves is staggering! Simply searching for werewolf romance books online just about put me over the edge. While any sort of paranormal beings (werewolves, vampires, bear shifters, demons, etc.) may not be everyone’s cup of tea, these werewolf books have an incredibly large following. See? Werewolf books are a guaranteed mood booster. It also doesn’t hurt that the fated mates trope-and therefore werewolf romances-is almost always higher up there on the heat level, since the character’s bodies recognize the need to get it on ASAP. ![]() There is something so deliciously decadent about big bad werewolves being absolutely powerless to love and their preordained mate. Much of my obsession with werewolf romance books comes via the fated mates trope that almost always permeates these paranormal books. ![]() Whenever I need a book that is guaranteed to delight or something to pull me out of a reading slump, werewolf romances are my very first choice. Werewolf romance novels are my comfort reads. ![]() ![]() Come on Auntie, Xmas is just around the corner, surely we deserve it? Similar to Wallender, it would make a great BBC series, even if they might have to tone the gore down a bit, and we have the perfect actor to take the part of Harry Hole Christopher Eccleston. As a frequent visitor to Oslo I recognise many of the place names and references even if I can't always place them on a map or in relation to each other. Jo Nesbo's writing helps you move rapidly through the pages so credit also to the translator, Don Bartlett if the same as for The Snowman. As with other books in the series, the plot interweaves a number of themes and has one or two rewarding twists towards the end. For me one of the best of the series and better than The Snowman which seemed to be the book which helped Jo Nesbo reach a wider audience (but I could be wrong.) Harry Hole could easily become a typical detective cliche but somehow Jo Nesbo pitches him just right to remain sympathetic and realistic. ![]() I have read all of those in this collection but just finished The Redeemer, so a little out of sequence, and my comments relate to this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hence me working at my Tita Rosie’s restaurant rather than running my own cafe, which is what I’d been going to school for before I found out Sam was a cheating scumbag. Heck, I’m twenty-five and still make bad decisions based on those same dumb hormones. You’re dumb when you’re fifteen and hopped up on hormones. Odd behavior from the guy who’d wanted to marry me right after graduating from high school, but what can I say? I had exceptionally bad taste when I was younger. Pretty much tried to shut down my aunt’s restaurant on a weekly basis. Too bad he’d aged into a ridiculous jerk with a puffed up sense of importance and weird vendetta against my family. OK, that last part is a joke, but I really did run into my high school sweetheart. And to put the cherry on top, in the trope of all tropes, I even reconnected with my high school sweetheart after moving back to town and discovered the true meaning of Christmas. ![]() ![]() As a result, she took many detours on her way to becoming an author.
